Time for the five NFL picks of the week or the fab five as my counterpart, Josh Brewer calls them. i refuse to call them that because of the relevance to Michigan’s fab five with C-web, Jalen Rose and the famous time-out incident which still makes me smile to this day. Anyway, time to move on and bring you my five picks of the week!
Philadelphia at Arizona- The Eagles head across the country to play the surprising 2-0 Arizona Cardinals led by Kevin Kolb (yes he “won” the job back). Kolb will get a crack at the team who traded him back in 2011. The Eagles have looked to put it kindly, sloppy in their first two games. They have committed 9 turnovers in those two games but they bring the Cards back down to earth.
Atlanta at San Diego- Both teams are 2-0 with San Diego coming off a blow-out win over the Titans and Atlanta clinging on to a last quarter effort by the Denver Broncos. The Falcons have looked a lot better than I thought they would and Philip Rivers is taking care of the ball. Going with San Diego on this one since they are at home.
Houston at Denver- Houston might be the best team in the AFC with a two-headed running attack and a very stout defense. Plus Matt Schaub has the ability to win games even if his performance last week didn’t show it. Denver is coming off a tough loss on Monday night football and get an even tougher opponent in the Texans. The early part of the schedule hasn’t been kind to Denver. Houston gets it done.
New England at Baltimore- Baltimore really let last week’s game against Philly slip away from them. After looking ready to join the elites, Joe Flacco crapped the bed last Sunday. And can someone explain why Ray Rice isn’t getting touches? New England lost a shocker to Arizona last week and with no Aaron Hernandez the Pats offense could sputter a bit but I think they pull it out on national television.
Green Bay at Seattle- My Packers head out west and face off against the Seahawks and their 12th man. The Pack had a nice rebound last week against the Bears where the defense put up a monstrous seven sacks and picked Jay Cutler four times. Offense still needs to click though. Seattle got a nice win at home over Dallas last week after faltering to the Cardinals in week one. Rookie Russell Wilson will get a tough test in Seattle. Pack pulls this one out on the road.
