Packers-Lions recap part 2.

Talking with one of my bosses today about the game last night we discussed that Packer fans need to relax and realize this is not the team of 2011. The offense hasn’t been fully healthy since week 1 and this is a team who sometimes needs to grind out games to win. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world but guess what? The Pack are getting the W’s and that is what matters. Let’s get to what got the Packers the W last night.

1. Run game:

  • Who is this team and what have they done with the Green Bay Packers? The Pack have now had back to back games rushing for over 140 yards. The Pack averaged 5.6 ypc last night. The tone was set right away with recently promoted running back DuJuan Harris. Harris showed a physicality in the run game that has been lacking this season and fellow running back Alex Green took notice. Green had his best game of the year rushing 13 times for 69 yards. Hell even Aaron Rodgers got into the act scampering 27 yards for a touchdown followed by a very disappointing Lambeau Leap.

2. Timely takeaways:

  • Mike Daniels made the play of his young career with a scoop and score to bring the Packers within four in a crucial period of the game. For awhile it looked like the 2011 defense where they couldn’t tackle and guys were running free. Also credit Sam Shields for a big interception after Stafford had started red hot.

3. Randall Cobb:

  • He is going to make the eventual departure of Greg Jennings a lot less painful. Cobb did nothing last night except put up 7 catches for 102 yards. Cobb extended his NFL leading total yards mark and has a good chance to eclipse what Darren Sproles did last year.

It was great to see the Packers pick up another key win last night and are now 4-0 in the division. With a win against the Bears next week it will give the Pack back to back division titles and a chance to continue to climb in the overall playoff standings. This is going to be a fun and strenuous last few weeks but I can’t wait!
